The purpose of this blog post is to provide you with tips and strategies to help you start shifting public perception of who you are. The idea is that every community needs a guru. Every community needs a wise man/woman, an authority figure if you will, that they can lean on for help and guidance in all things health and wellness related. Which includes, Mind, Body and Spirit.
Tip #1: Use Quote Cards
We’ve all seen quote cards floating around on Facebook. You know what I’m referring to, right?
It’s those pictures you see with Anthony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, Richard Branson, and Brendon Burchard’s face on them and a big fat quote right next to their name.
For example, this quote card of Richard Branson…
When you look at this, what thoughts run through your mind?
Do your thoughts lean towards,
- Wisdom
- Knowledge
- Wealth
- Expert
- Famous
- Guru
I bet they do. Unless you just have a general disliking of Richard Branson.
So, how would you use a strategy like this in your own business?
For starters, you can simply take a picture of yourself and then by simply using a free mobile app like TitleFX or WordSwag you can place text overlay right on the photo and then upload it to Facbook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and more.
For example,
You can use your own quote or even the quotes of others.
Having your own quote is ideal, but even using other peoples’ quotes will work due to the Law of Similarity.
The Law of Similarity states that when two things are very similar to each other, the thought of one will often trigger the thought of the other.
This is a great way to position yourself as someone who has much wisdom and knowledge to share and since people are practically already programmed to see people with a quote next to their name as a trusted, authority figure, this will most certainly work to your advantage. People will also see you as a trusted, authority figure.
Tip #2: Use Video To Share Tidbits of Wisdom
Video, especially Facebook video is HUGE right now! More than any other time in history, people have the ability to hear and see your heart felt message.
They say the human voice is 60X’s more powerful than the written word, now imagine how much more impactful hearing your voice AND seeing your face can be.
So what kind of videos should you make?
Well, people love videos that add value to their life and people love stories.
So, with that in mind, what if you made a 2-3 min video and shared an experience you had during the day that had some sort of moral to the story, a life lesson if you will.
- What about a video of you showing people how to cook a really quick, nutritious meal in under 3 min. For example, a video of you making your favorite green smoothie.
- What about a video that showed them how to do an amazing low back or neck stretch that will make them feel twenty years old again!
- Or even a video that taught them ways to be more positive even in the worst of times.
There’s so much you can do with video, the possibilities are endless.
The key is to be consistent. Set a goal to produce at least two, 1-3 min. videos each week and watch how people become more attracted to you.
Your videos don’t have to be long, nor should they be. I simple 30 sec. video can go a really long way especially if the message is powerful.
And don’t worry about “editing” your videos or adding music to them. Sure, good editing and music can make the video more entertaining, but don’t worry about that right now. Just get busy making videos and upload them in the RAW.
People these days want REAL anyway, so don’t freak out if you don’t know how to edit videos, you don’t need to.
There’s no better way to get people to know, like and trust you than with video.
You’ll attract a tribe of loyal followers that will always look forward to the next piece of advice and wisdom their “Community Guru” has to share.
Tip #3: Engage with Your Audience More Often
I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen someone make a post on Facebook or Instagram, see a ton of comments on the feed, only to find the person who made the post, missing in action.
If people make a comment under your post like, “Wow! That was an amazing tip Dr. Joe!”YOU NEED TO RESPOND. Do not leave them hanging.
You need to respond for two reasons.
#1. It’s just proper etiquette. If someone takes the time to leave you a comment, you need to take the time to respond. Not responding is just rude.
#2. The more comments, likes and shares you have on a particular post, the more Facebook sees that post as News Feed Worthy. Which means if they see people engaging on it, they’ll show that post to more people thereby getting you more exposure and more opportunities to share your wisdom.
Plus, when you engage, it shows people you care and there’s nothing better than a Caring Guru.
So there you have it!
The quickest way to start positioning yourself as the Community Guru, the all wise, all knowing Salton of Truth is to…
- Use Quote Cards
- Produce Video
- Engage with Your Followers
…and of course doing ALL of this on a consistent basis. Consistency is the key.
If you want to stand out in a noisy world, you’ve got to be ALL IN and commit to being different than everyone else and commit to being consistent.
You can’t post the same old stuff everyone else is sharing. Create unique content.
