Create Peace in Your Practice

When it comes to building your chiropractic team, there are probably several characteristics you have in mind: quick learners, self-sufficient, friendly, etc. But have you ever considered how important it is to surround yourself with a diverse group of people to keep the peace? A positive environment is an important aspect of operating a successful chiropractic practice, but you don’t achieve that harmony by making everyone the same. Here are some tips for creating a harmonious and peaceful practice.

Are Your Hires All The Same?

When hiring excellent staff, avoid hiring for similarity. Often we surround ourselves with people who are like us – people who have the same interests and see the world in the same way. It’s important to build a team with values in line with your practice’s mission, but surrounding yourself with ‘yes men’ is no way to find success. Let’s say you struggle with organization and have built a team just like you – your entire practice may thrive in some areas, but important patient files and billing materials would suffer. Creating a balanced and well-rounded team will help your practice thrive.

A Balanced Team

Think about a baseball team. Each player has their own unique position. They do different things, have different skill-sets, and yet they all come together to reach a common goal – to win! The same goes for your chiropractic practice. Each staff member’s strengths and weaknesses should be considered to determine how to best serve the practice. To ensure all your bases are covered follow these tips:

  • Identify the responsibilities and roles you need covered in your practice

  • Make sure that every job, essential task, and service is identified

  • Determine the skills and character traits that will be required to service that responsibility or role successfully

  • Assign existing team members with those qualifications to that position or create a new role and hire someone who fits the bill

  • Ensure that every procedure fits into the values of your practice

  • Develop training procedures to ensure every aspect of the role is covered

By building a diverse team and using the unique strengths of each employee to best serve your patients and your practice, you will create a stronger and more successful practice.
